Study in Hungary
Higher studies at Hungary Universities
In Hungary, universities generally award courses at both the college and university levels. Beginning in 2005, schools in Hungary began to transition to the Bologna Process regulations. If the requirements are met, both colleges and universities in Hungary may launch bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. programs under this new system. This also implies that all degrees conferred are equivalent and transferable across the EU and many other countries.
The academic year in Hungary runs from September to June, with long vacations in July and August. In Hungary, the public higher education system consists of universities and other higher education institutes that offer both education curricula and related degrees up to the doctorate level. Some people also help with research.
Higher education degrees in Hungary adhere to the international standards established by the Bologna Process. This means that, with the exception of certain vocational degrees awarded by non-university and college institutions in Hungary, degrees are equivalent to Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees. This makes Hungarian university qualifications more widely comparable on the international market, and students can pursue a master’s degree in a field other than their bachelor’s.
After five to six years of study in vocationally-directed courses such as medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine, the first degree awarded is a master’s degree. Degrees in medicine, veterinary studies, and architecture awarded in Hungary are directly transferable and accepted for professional purposes in other EU countries.
